Park Recreation Shelters

Update July 5, 2021: Thank you for your input on the proposed locations for the Park Recreation Shelters. Our survey is now closed. We’re now working through all of your feedback and will be using this to help determine the final shelter locations. Check back for updates.

We're installing multi-purpose park shelters to enhance our City Parks. These shelters provide protection from the elements, and a flexible space for a wide variety of activities such as picnics, celebrations, exercise and art classes, cultural events and more.

Our plan is to add shelters to two parks in the City, one for each park. We've narrowed down the options to four parks; Heywood Park, Loutet Park, Ray Perrault Park, and Victoria Park West.

We selected each of these four park candidates using criteria such as accessible washrooms and available parking. Each of the parks is described below.

Heywood Park

• Leave the bustle of Marine Drive and escape into a lush, green ravine that frames the salmon-bearing Mackay Creek. The southern portion of this park is a valley bordered by multi-family homes and local businesses along Marine Drive.
• Accessible washrooms are integrated into the vibrantly painted Mackay Creek Hatchery field-house, and further past the playground a footbridge leads to an open grassy area and an extensive trail network.

Loutet Park

• Bordering the eastern edge of the City, Loutet Park is home to expansive sports fields with bleacher seating, a playground, wide trails, and Gerry’s Garden.
• Loutet Park is also known for its urban farm that is hosted on City land in cooperation with the Edible Garden Project.

Ray Perrault Park

• Ray Perrault Park, formerly known as Boulevard Park, is located off Grand Boulevard offering a wide variety of activities including sport courts, sports fields, playgrounds and inviting open spaces to take in views of the north shore mountains.
• This park is located near Grand Boulevard and the “Green Necklace” connects it to the broader community and green spaces.

Victoria Park West

• Victoria Park West’s central location divides Lower and Central Lonsdale and is surrounded by residential towers and active streets. Although it’s flanked by Keith Road and intersected by Lonsdale Ave, its tall tree-lined pathways and open grassy areas provide a pause from the hustle and bustle of the City.
• Victoria Park West has a long history of being an active civic park and is one of the first and central components of CNV’s “Green Necklace”. Plenty of benches, picnic tables, paved pathways and public art can be found throughout the park.
