This plan is a nightmare and must be stopped!
I received the November 2019 Cloverley Traffic Calming Pilot Plan notice in my mailbox. I'm very disappointed that this "calming" plan is continuing to proceed by introducing yet more barriers for the people that LIVE and WORK in the City of North Vancouver. This plan continues to have a very negative impact on the overall quality of the neighbourhood, and frankly I would rather have 1-2 days a month of traffic backing up into my neighbourhood vs. 365 days of living in a maze of traffic regulations, no left turns, speed humps, and signage everywhere.
I'm not sure just how much more our particular neighbourhood is capable to bear on behalf of other areas of the City:
- Mountain Highway interchange construction has resulted in a flow of construction & flag person vehicles driving down Cloverley Street regularly, as well as dust, noise and essentially having a construction site in close proximity for an extended period
- Cloverley School has been closed and now turned into a construction parking lot for the G3 terminal (also a major eyesore), again with regular bus service to/from the lot.
- I walked home from Lower Lonsdale on Monday Tuesday night at 5:15pm through the Cloverley school parking lot when a mini bus had just dropped off a shift of construction people... This created its own traffic jam in my neighbourbood with 20 trucks and cars and an empty mini bus all driving down Shavington and Cloverley right past my house.
- A recent notice from the City was delivered to our door informing us that North Shore Studios employees and contractors would be parking along Shavington (and likely around Cloverley Street too)
The short cutters & rat runners will continue to drive over barriers and ignore signs because they aren't invested in my community. They want to get home to theirs. They use apps such as Waze, Google Maps, etc that actively encourage short-cutting.
We are playing an endless game that we can't win as we keep increasing density. Do we reasonably expect all those new condos along 3rd Street to be filled with residents who work in the City (let alone the North Shore)? They too will be among the legions of people trying to get from one point to the next in the least amount of time.
I think its critical that we pause any future calming efforts in my neighbourhood that further impede access to/from my home. Let the police enforce the rules that are in place today with the limited resources they have to assign to traffic compliance issues such as this.
Let's focus our attention on getting that pedestrian controlled traffic light at Hendry Ave and Keith Rd installed. Vehicles go into overdrive up and down the hill and its a deathtrap for adults and children alike.
