Making Eastview Park more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

Eastview Park is located on the eastern boundary of the City between Rufus Drive and Mountain Highway. This 2.8 hectare neighbourhood park is accessed for its wooded walking trails, open spaces and disc golf course.

Why are we conducting engagement?

Following direction from City Council in March 2024, we’re exploring ways to make disc golf the primary focus of Eastview Park, while mitigating the impacts on other park users. We’re building concepts that follow four core principles shaped by Phase 1 engagement held in summer 2023:

  • Ensuring safety for all visitors
  • Improving trails and circulation
  • Supporting a healthy forest ecology
  • Creating a thoughtful disc golf experience suitable for a neighborhood park

Share your thoughts on proposed concepts

The City invites you to learn more about the proposed concepts for Eastview Park and share your feedback! Your input will help us understand how well the two concepts align with the design principles. We’ll use what we hear to refine a final concept that will be presented to City Council for review and decision in late 2025. Share your thoughts:

  1. Attend one of two open houses
Learn about the proposed concepts and share your feedback. City staff and consultants will be available to answer questions.
    • June 25 -- 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Eastview Park (North Entrance at Cedar Village Close)
    • June 26 -- 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Karen Magnussen Community Centre
  2. Respond to the online survey
    • Available here on the Let's Talk page, from June 25 - July 13, 2025

In early 2023, Council directed staff to evaluate options for Eastview Park that consider the long-term sustainability of the park, safety, reduction of conflict between park uses and the possibility of relocation of the existing disc golf course.

Between June and July 2023, we launched a public engagement process to help us understand: what is working well today in the park; what could be improved; and what would people like to see for the future of the park. This engagement included two community workshops, two park pop-ups and a survey. The results of the public engagement can be viewed in the What We Heard Report.

Between spring and fall 2023, staff also undertook research to explore the possible relocation of disc golf to another City park, a site analysis specific to Eastview and a comparative overview of other disc golf facilities in the region.

On March 4, 2024, we presented our recommendations to Council. During the meeting, Council directed staff to develop a plan for Eastview Park to make disc golf the primary recreational focus of the park, while mitigating the impacts on other users as much as possible. March 2024: Thank you to everyone who shared feedback throughout the project engagement period last summer. We have compiled a summary of all the community feedback received into a ‘What We Heard’ engagement summary report. This input will be considered in decisions about improvements at Eastview Park.

We understand this project is important to you and that you are looking forward to the next steps. We are now scheduled to present recommendations on this project to City Council at the regular Council meeting on Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m.

December 2023: Throughout the public engagement, we heard about how valuable Eastview Park is to the community. We are taking the time to develop meaningful recommendations for Council that consider the diverse viewpoints heard in the engagement and incorporate park planning best practices.

To accommodate this work, we are now scheduled to present our recommendations to Council in early 2024.

June 2023: We're conducting Phase 1 engagement activities. Join us at any of the following activities:

    1. Answer the survey

    • The survey is available on this page between June 20 and July 11 at 4 p.m.

    2. Pin places on the map

    • Show us what you like best about Eastview Park, as well as what could be improved. The map is available on this page between June 20 and July 11 at 4 p.m.

    3. Attend one of our community workshops (registration required)

    • Thursday, June 22, 6-8 p.m.
    • Saturday, June 24, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Two workshops are being held to ensure as many people as possible can attend. Both workshops will be identical, so attendance at only one of the sessions is necessary.

To register, email eastviewpark@cnv.org with your contact details, the date you would like to attend, and your connection to Eastview Park: I am a neighbour, community member, and/or disc golf player.

Registration is limited to 30 people per workshop. Both sessions will be held at the Karen Magnussen Community Recreation Centre.

    4. Chat with us in-person at our park pop-up

    • Tuesday, June 27, 2-5 p.m., Eastview Park
    • Thursday, June 29, 5-7 p.m., Eastview Park

We look forward to your participation in upcoming engagements. To be directly notified about project updates, please subscribe in Stay Informed box in the right sidebar.
