Growing Livable Neighbourhoods
The City is updating the tools we use to plan our communities in response to provincial housing changes. As we plan for future growth, we're committed to keeping our city welcoming, friendly and vibrant.
One way to do this is to add low-density homes, which have also been called multiplex or gentle infill housing, or even “missing middle” housing that include up to 6 units on a property.
We invite you to help the City understand the look and feel that makes housing livable in North Vancouver neighbourhoods.
Why are we engaging now?
Recently, the British Columbia Provincial Government imposed changes that require municipalities to update zoning and planning tools to improve housing availability over the next 20 years. For more information about the changes, please visit the City's webpage on provincial legislative changes.
How can I participate?
There are a number of ways you can help shape decisions about new housing and the City's planning tools. Choose the format and content that is of most interest to you!
1. Engagement pop-ups
Join City staff to help define how we ensure that low density housing can be designed in a way that neighbourhoods retain their character and remain friendly, welcoming and vibrant. Stop by whenever convenient and stay as long as you want! Join us:
- Thursday, July 10th, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. -- Outside the Polygon Gallery (101 Carrie Cates Ct, North Vancouver)
- Saturday, July 12th, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. -- Mahon Park, near the splash park, North Vancouver

2. Community workshop
In this 1.5-hour workshop, City staff invite members of the community to learn about the CNV's planning tools, strategies for livable growth, and help shape the way in which our low-density neighbourhoods look and feel.
- Tuesday, July 22nd, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. -- John Braithwaite Community Centre (145 W 1st St, North Vancouver), Anchor Room
3. Town Hall meeting
This meeting is a legislative requirement and will follow a traditional town hall format. City staff will share a presentation, which includes information about proposed changes to the City's Official Community Plan, Zoning Bylaws and other planning tools, and respond to questions.
- Thursday, July 24th, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. -- John Braithwaite Community Centre (145 W 1st St, North Vancouver), Shoreline Room
4. Online survey
Between July 10th and 31st, 2025, a digital survey will be available to provide your feedback on livable growth in the City.
