Update September 28, 2022: Public consultation for this project is now complete and the skate plaza is open. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your input. Your feedback helped shape the final design and identify what amenities are most important. Learn more at cnv.org/skatepark.

We're building a skate park at Mahon Park, as the Lonsdale Skate Park has been removed for construction of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC). The Mahon Skate Park will be located next to the basketball and pickleball courts.

In May 2022, we engaged with skateboard community members and residents to get feedback on a preliminary design concept. Input was received through an online survey and residents also had the opportunity to engage directly with staff at CityFest; the largest youth-led event in Metro Vancouver. We also held a design workshop with skateboard community members who had previously expressed an interest in participating in the design process. Thanks to everyone who provided input. Your feedback helped us finalize the design for the skate park. Learn more in our What We Heard summary.

About the Design

The skate park will be a permanent feature in Mahon Park with opportunities for all skill levels. It features a simple, street-focused design that links together well-spaced obstacles.

Additional park amenities like a new water fountain, fencing, and storage for maintenance tools will also be delivered as part of this project. View the Mahon Skate Park Design Gallery for more info.

Initially we had proposed a two-phase construction period, but we are now moving ahead to complete the entire design this summer. Local company RDS has helped to make this happen through their tremendous support and generous contributions to the project, including the long granite reservoir ledge, granite benches and barriers.

What's Next?

Site prep and demo work began in mid-June 2022 and we anticipate that the project will be complete later this summer. The granite benches are currently at the site and have been placed in a location where they can be used during construction.
