City Skate Park

We're building a skate park at Mahon Park, as the Lonsdale Skate Park has been removed for construction of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC). The Mahon skate park will be located next to the basketball courts and pickleball courts.

Update on Mahon Skate Park

Public engagement on the design of the Mahon skate park was held in May 2022. The Let’s Talk online survey was launched from May 6 to May 16, and City staff were present at CityFest on May 7 to engage directly with residents. We also held a design workshop on May 10 with skateboard community members who had previously expressed an interest in participating in the design process.

Feedback from the workshop and the online survey results have helped create the final plan. Thank you for your contributions to the design process!

About the Plan

The skate park will be a permanent feature in Mahon Park with opportunities for all skill levels. It features a simple, street-focused design that links together well-spaced obstacles.

Additional park amenities like a new water fountain, fencing, and storage for maintenance tools will also be delivered as part of this project. View the Mahon Skate Park Design Gallery for more info.

Initially we had proposed a two-phase construction period, but we are now moving ahead to complete the entire design this summer. Local company RDS has helped to make this happen through their tremendous support and generous contributions to the project, including the long granite reservoir ledge, granite benches, and barriers!

What's Next?

Site prep and demo work began on June 13, 2022 and we anticipate that the project will be complete later this summer. The granite benches are currently at the site and have been placed in a location where they can be used during construction.
