Skate park at Mahon Park
In 2022, the City began building a skate park at Mahon Park, as the Lonsdale Skate Park had been removed for construction of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre (HJCRC). The Mahon Skate Park will located next to the basketball and pickleball courts.
In May 2022, we engaged with skateboard community members and residents to get feedback on a preliminary design concept. Input was received through an online survey and residents also had the opportunity to engage directly with staff at CityFest, the largest youth-led event in Metro Vancouver. We also held a design workshop with skateboard community members who had previously expressed an interest in participating in the design process. Learn more about the engagement in our What We Heard summary.
Community engagement helped inform the finalized design for the skatepark, which you can explore in images below.
Skate Park Design Gallery
The skate park will be a permanent feature in Mahon Park with opportunities for all skill levels. It features a simple, street-focused design that links together well-spaced obstacles.
Additional park amenities like a new water fountain, fencing, and storage for maintenance tools will also be delivered as part of this project. View the Mahon Skate Park Design Gallery for more info.
Initially we had proposed a two-phase construction period, but we are now moving ahead to complete the entire design this summer. Local company RDS has helped to make this happen through their tremendous support and generous contributions to the project, including the long granite reservoir ledge, granite benches and barriers.
