Why are we asking?
Provincial laws recently changed. The new laws require the City of North Vancouver to plan where more homes could be added over the next 20 years, which means we have to update our planning tools to align with the laws. How do we grow livable neighbourhoods?
One way the City plans to grow while protecting the existing character of our neighbourhoods is through “low-density housing”. "Low-density housing" refers to buildings that may have up to 6 units on one property. We can use low-density housing to grow livable neighbourhoods by gently increasing the availability of homes while still maintaining the existing look and feel of our residential neighbourhoods.
What are examples of low-density housing?
Low-density housing includes: single-detached houses, coach houses or laneway homes, townhomes, duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes, row houses and secondary suites. These homes usually have direct access to the street, rather than through a building lobby. For example:
