We're taking steps to make Eastview Park welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

Eastview Park is located on the eastern boundary of the City between Rufus Drive and Mountain Highway. This 2.8 hectare neighbourhood park is accessed for its wooded walking trails, open spaces and disc golf course.

Project Update — October 2024

Following Council’s direction, we are developing a renewal plan for Eastview Park to make disc golf the primary recreational focus of the park, while minimizing impacts on other users.

We are currently in the process of requesting proposals for a qualified consultant team, including a disc golf course designer and a landscape architect, to support the development of concept designs for the park. The designs should prioritize:

  • The safety of all park visitors
  • Park trails and circulation
  • The health of the forest ecology
  • Best practices in disc golf design to ensure the course is both challenging and enjoyable.

Next spring 2025, the public will have the opportunity to provide input on the concept designs, which will help shape the final park design.

Future updates will continue to be shared on this page. To receive notifications about upcoming engagement opportunities, please subscribe via the ‘Stay Informed’ box in the right sidebar.

Background

In early 2023, Council directed staff to evaluate options for Eastview Park that consider the long-term sustainability of the park, safety, reduction of conflict between park uses and the possibility of relocation of the existing disc golf course.

Between June and July 2023, we launched a public engagement process to help us understand: what is working well today in the park; what could be improved; and what would people like to see for the future of the park. This engagement included two community workshops, two park pop-ups and a survey. The results of the public engagement can be viewed in the What We Heard Report.

Between spring and fall 2023, staff also undertook research to explore the possible relocation of disc golf to another City park, a site analysis specific to Eastview and a comparative overview of other disc golf facilities in the region.

On March 4, 2024, we presented our recommendations to Council. During the meeting, Council directed staff to develop a plan for Eastview Park to make disc golf the primary recreational focus of the park, while mitigating the impacts on other users as much as possible. Update March 1, 2024: Thank you to everyone who shared feedback throughout the project engagement period last summer. We have compiled a summary of all the community feedback received into a ‘What We Heard’ engagement summary report. This input will be considered in decisions about improvements at Eastview Park.

We understand this project is important to you and that you are looking forward to the next steps. We are now scheduled to present recommendations on this project to City Council at the regular Council meeting on Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m.

Update December 11, 2023: Throughout the public engagement, we heard about how valuable Eastview Park is to the community. We are taking the time to develop meaningful recommendations for Council that consider the diverse viewpoints heard in the engagement and incorporate park planning best practices.

To accommodate this work, we are now scheduled to present our recommendations to Council in early 2024.

We are looking to listen and learn from everyone who uses Eastview Park to better understand opportunities to improve the park.

We are launching a community engagement process to help us understand:

    • What is working well today in the park?
    • What could be improved?
    • What would you like to see for the future of the park?

Your input will help City staff develop recommendations for potential park improvements. It is anticipated that these recommendations will be presented to Council for consideration in late fall 2023. Now is your time to engage and share your thoughts on the future of this well-used and much-loved neighbourhood park.

    Get Involved

    1. Answer the survey

    • The survey is available on this page between June 20 and July 11 at 4 p.m.

    2. Pin places on the map

    • Show us what you like best about Eastview Park, as well as what could be improved. The map is available on this page between June 20 and July 11 at 4 p.m.

    3. Attend one of our community workshops (registration required)

    • Thursday, June 22, 6-8 p.m.
    • Saturday, June 24, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Two workshops are being held to ensure as many people as possible can attend. Both workshops will be identical, so attendance at only one of the sessions is necessary.

Registration is limited to 30 people per workshop. Both sessions will be held at the Karen Magnussen Community Recreation Centre.

    4. Chat with us in-person at our park pop-up
